gardening spikes - the basics

Your Guide to Planting the Right Herbs for the Kitchen. Whether your home is large, small, or you live in an apartment, a herbal garden can add not only variety and spice to your cooking but also a bit of decoration to your home. The back of the seed packet tells you the best time to plant the seeds.

If you are planting bulbs in the spring, you can do so as soon as the threat of frost has passed. When the plants are healthy, they store longer, taste better, are more resistant to insect attacks, and grow a lot more. You should know that planting ground covers are not difficult at all.

Although the kitchen is not the only location for an herb garden, especially if you live in a high rise or an apartment where you have no windows or very small ones in your kitchen area, look around your home for an area where there is sunlight and warmth. Consider where you are going to plant the rose bush: on a steep bank or a prepared bed? However, some annuals grow better when sown as seeds directly in the ground.

Most plants do not come back from water stress well; so do not allow your plants to wilt! Thoroughly water your plants, keep watering till you see water draining out of the bottom of the basket. The rosebush can survive outside the soil for a certain amount of time but you do want to try to plant it as soon as you can. The first thing to consider is where on your deck or patio you would like your garden.

Part of gardening is patience and great care. It is best to plant something that will offer food to both caterpillars and butterflies.
